Mei Mei's Story of Resilience

The air was thick with exhaust as Mei Mei navigated the chaotic streets, overwhelmed by the sounds of a foreign language and the scents of street food. Her handler gripped her arm tightly, guiding her through the bustling crowd until they stopped suddenly. “We’re here,” he muttered, and an older woman appeared to take her away in a vehicle, leaving Mei Mei anxious about her new life at the factory.

Instead of a factory, she found herself in a small house with James, a mentally ill man whose parents bought him a wife from the traffickers.

What was meant to be a new beginning turned into a nightmare as Mei Mei became pregnant and faced increasing cruelty from her in-laws.

After a chance encounter at the market, she reached out to the Myanmar Anti-Trafficking Police, only to be arrested herself.

Stripped of her rights and separated from her daughter, Lu Lu, she endured months of despair, even attempted to kill herself.

Eventually transferred to our partner center's Myanmar branch for support, Mei Mei now works to reclaim her life, forever hopeful for a reunion with her child. Her journey of courage continues to inspire those around her.
