Should we celebrate Human Rights Day?

Human Rights Day takes place every year on 10 December. It commemorates the day in 1948 when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).Since it's coming in three days, I found myself asking “Do I need a day to celebrate Human Rights?”. Honestly, in my opinion, we don’t need a day, but we should have it.The reason why I don’t feel the need for a day to remind me of poor people, marginalized groups, and those who are suffering from the consequences of war is that I should be thinking about them every single moment of my life because “I AM HUMAN” and they belong to me in a way or another. In addition, I should feel and be concerned of how it feels when my human rights are violated, because I may be in the same situation one day. On the other hand, we still need that one day that reminds us of those who need help. First, because we tend to forget and we only remember their human rights when our human rights were violated. Second, it’s a chance to point out that there is still a lot to do for other’s human rights and to show solidarity. Thus, get ready to celebrate people’s human rights your way because celebration is our right and we are going to celebrate the gift of having a voice for other’s rights.
