Mya Mya's Story of Resilience
Mya Mya, a young girl from a rural Myanmar village, had her life drastically altered at the age of 13. Her family's financial struggles led to her parents' enslavement and her subsequent sale to a factory. Forced to abandon her education and endure harsh working conditions, Mya Mya lost her childhood innocence and dreams.
Despite the hardships, Mya Mya harbored aspirations of a better future, yearning for office work and a chance to uplift her family. Her youthful beauty, however, made her a target for exploitation. Ye Win, a deceitful man, exploited her naivety, promising a brighter future that was never meant to be.
Mya Mya and her cousin were lured to a house under the pretense of a city job. There, they were met with hostility from the homeowner, who subjected them to verbal abuse and confinement. Left alone and confused, they awaited their uncertain fate. The next morning, they were forcibly taken to an unfamiliar city and a hotel. Overwhelmed by shock and fear, Mya Mya struggled to remember any landmarks or clues that could aid her escape.
They arrived at a decrepit hotel, filled with a foul odor and dim, flickering lights. Mya Mya was confined to a small, dreary room, forced into a white dress to await her horrific fate. As a man entered the room, purchasing her innocence, she wept and cried for help, her pleas falling on deaf ears.Another man, with malicious intent, dragged her and her cousin to a brothel notorious for exploiting underage girls. Despite the horrors they endured, Mya Mya remained a source of strength for her cousin. She fought to silence the self-doubt that plagued her mind. After three agonizing months, Mya Mya, driven by desperation, made a courageous decision. She and her cousin, abandoning their cautious nature, chose bravery.
Mya Mya, watching the pimps through a hole in the wall, seized an opportunity to escape. She and her cousin tiptoed out into the night, running until dawn. A kind stranger offered them a ride home, reuniting them with their family.
Despite their liberation, the girls suffered from PTSD, struggling to eat and recount their ordeal. Their parents sought help, leading them to our partner center.
